The formula

Linear intervals = ceil(straight path length ÷ verified viewing distance).
Equal interval length = path length ÷ intervals.

Worked example

Example
A verified 250 ft straight visible path and an accepted 100 ft listed viewing distance produce three equal planning intervals of approximately 83.3 ft. This does not mean that three signs satisfy the project.

A common mistake: Does not determine the required number, position, orientation, direction, listing, power, illumination, or visibility of exit signs.

A path-length division cannot determine mandatory sign locations, direction changes, visibility, obstructions, or listing conditions. Calling the quotient a required sign count was not supportable.
