Genia

AI structural design copilot that turns architectural drawings into permit-ready structural drawings

AI platform for structural engineers that parses uploaded DWG or Revit architectural files, auto-detects structural elements, and generates hundreds of physics-validated structural layout options. Engineers select from a shortlist of code-compliant, cost-optimized designs and export permit-ready CAD/BIM structural drawings with calculation sheets.

Why This Tool Exists

The Problem

Structural engineers manually translate architectural drawings into structural layouts and run code-compliance calculations by hand or in spreadsheets, a process that can take days per project and creates a bottleneck between architectural design and permit submission — especially for repetitive single-family, townhouse, and multi-family structural work.

The Solution

Genia parses uploaded DWG or Revit (.rvt) architectural files to auto-detect walls, doors, windows, openings, and stairs, then generates hundreds of candidate structural layouts. Each candidate is checked by a rule-based structural analysis engine against DCR (demand-capacity ratio) limits and building codes, using ASCE API lookups for site-specific seismic and wind parameters. Engineers review 3-5 recommended options, edit and rerun analysis as needed, and export permit-ready DWG structural drawings and PDF calculation/material take-off sheets.

Exactly what this tool uses and how

Input
What it needs
Required:Architectural drawing file (DWG or Revit .rvt), Project address (for seismic/wind parameters), Design parameters and constraints (building type, material choices)
Optional:Floor count, Roofed area, Custom material specifications
Formats:DWG, RVT (Revit)
Output
What you get
Format:Structural design drawings with calculation and material take-off sheets
Fields:Structural layout (framing, columns, walls), DCR (demand-capacity ratio) distributions, Material take-offs, Cost estimation, Constructibility assessment, PE/SE review and stamping status
Algorithm
How it works
Model:Proprietary generative AI paired with a rule-based structural analysis engine (model architecture not publicly disclosed)
Accuracy:Vendor-published technical case study reports results within ~5% of a traditional SEAOC seismic hand-calculation example; company claims "40% fewer human errors" and "20% less construction material" versus manual design — these are vendor claims, not independently audited
Privacy
How your data is protected
Retention:Not specified beyond "we may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes" (per Genia privacy policy)
Training:Privacy policy explicitly states uploaded User Content (including architectural drawings and project data) is used to "train, develop, and enhance" Genia's AI models; using the service constitutes consent
Compliance:No SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, or HIPAA certification stated in the privacy policy
API
Integration
Endpoint:Not publicly documented; API access limited to Enterprise tier
Method:Not publicly specified

Use Cases

  • ·Converting architectural DWG/Revit drawings into structural layouts for permit submission
  • ·Generating and comparing multiple code-compliant structural design options for cost/material optimization
  • ·Retrofit and adaptive-reuse structural feasibility (e.g., converting schools/warehouses to residential or office use)
  • ·Lateral system (seismic/wind) design and validation
  • ·Single-family, townhouse, and multi-family structural design for developer/design-build workflows
