Example
A completed connection design requires a 1/4-in. fillet-weld leg and the detail specifies 5/16 in.. The ratio is 0.3125 ÷ 0.25 = 1.25, with a 1/16-in. arithmetic margin. That comparison does not independently validate the connection or fabrication requirements.
