Why This Tool Exists

The Problem

Revit teams need to share models with manufacturing, structural analysis, and engineering teams using CAD systems that don't support Revit format (STEP, IGES, or other CAD-native formats). Manual model reconstruction in external CAD systems is error-prone, time-consuming, and creates multiple conflicting versions of the same design.

The Solution

Plugin directly exports complete Revit 3D models to IGES format while preserving geometry accuracy, topology, colors, and design intent. Supports advanced geometry features (spline surfaces, wire data) and includes automation license for batch processing without manual intervention.

Exactly what this tool uses and how

Input
What it needs
Required:Revit 3D model file (.rvt), Model geometry and topology
Optional:Color/material information, Wire frame data, Spline surface definitions, Linked/nested models
Formats:.rvt, Revit 2020-2026 native format
Output
What you get
Format:IGES geometry file
Fields:Geometric shapes (solids, surfaces, curves), Topology and solid definitions, Spline surfaces and curves, Wire/frame data, Color and material properties, Coordinate systems and assembly hierarchy
Algorithm
How it works
Model:Proprietary geometry translation engine leveraging Revit native API
Accuracy:Geometric precision maintained per IGES specification with lossless topology preservation
Privacy
How your data is protected
Retention:Local processing only - no cloud storage or transmission
Training:Not used for model training - local plugin execution
Compliance:Local data processing only, No cloud data transmission, No third-party data sharing for export files
API
Integration
Endpoint:Local Revit API integration
Method:Revit Add-in API with automation support

Use Cases

  • ·Export architectural models to IGES for fabrication and manufacturing workflows
  • ·Share structural models with analysis teams using STEP-compatible CAD systems
  • ·Enable cross-platform collaboration between Revit and SolidWorks teams
  • ·Support model-based definition (MBD) workflows in manufacturing
  • ·Batch export multiple Revit files to IGES for data archival and legacy system integration
  • ·Facilitate geometry reuse in non-Revit analysis and simulation software
